Dodger
This little bugger has made his way into my home, room and heart. I miss Salem and Loki incredibly much, but I know how much they both hated to see me cry and be so down. While I am still very much grieving, Dodger has made my day seem a little brighter. He’s so curious and all over the place. I have never had the joy of having a kitten so the experience will be so different for me.
My best friend is not really excited, at all. She thinks its too soon, she thinks it shows I never loved my other two cats AT ALL, and she thinks Im doing a great injustice by Dodger by keeping him.
I am not sure how I feel about having a friend that could say such hurtful things….

Hello Kendi. I lost my Roxie in September, so I completely understand that your grief is new and raw. And yet I’m hoping that some needy dog will find her way to us the way Roxie did. Some people don’t understand how beautiful the heart is; and that is can be broken and yet whole enough to welcome a new life and love and still hold the ones it lost safely and forever. Maybe you can help your friend understand this, maybe not. Meantime, celebrate your little Dodger; he’s very lucky to have someone to welcome him. I think Sally said he’s meant to be with you, and she is very, very wise.

We’re all different, some need time between furry friends, others don’t. Dodger is one lucky little kitten that you have opened your heart and home to him. And yes, nothing like a kitten to lift your spirits! Salem and Loki will be forever in your heart. That doesn’t mean your heart doesn’t have room for Dodger too. Enjoy every minute with your little guy!

I can’t even address what your friend said to you because I could write paragraphs about how angry that makes me. It is just ludicrous.
Salem and Loki wouldn’t want you to sit and wallow and the KNOW you haven’t replaced them. You gave this new baby a home and if you had room in your home and your heart to save a little one, then that is what they would want.
I know Dodger will help brighten your days, not replace the loss you have suffered.

We all understand the need here to honor our furbaby’s legacy by continuing to open our hearts up and sharing the love. Can you imagine how hurt Salem would be if yo didn”t bring another kitty into your home? He would think somehow he had failed you if you never wanted another cat!
As Liz said, maybe you can help your friend understand, and maybe not. Try not and let her words hurt you, okay? You and she are just at two very different levels of awareness as far as understanding the many facets of love. You have a huge capacity to love. Salem helped you know that you should never deprive yourself…or others…of the gift of giving and receiving love.
Dodger is ADORABLE!! Clearly he has come to the right home at the right tme! He…and Salem… know exactly what they are doing! You just “go with the flow” and enjoy all the fun Dodger is bringing your way right now!

Thank you for the supportive words!!! She says I have no support and yet Im seeing shes the only one not supporting! Salem would have never wanted me to cry as much as I have and will. He hated his momma being sad.

What a wonderful Christmas gift for both of you. We all have different time clocks for bringing a new fur baby into our homes and hearts. I normally get new puppies fairly quickly to help my heart heal by having a new life to care for and to celebrate the life lost. I’m sorry you have had to hear hurtful words from a friend. Only you know what is right for your heart. Enjoy your beautiful new baby and have a wonderful Christmas!
